Chevron is accepting online applications for the Reactive Transport Modeler position through February 10, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. (CST).

Successful candidate of this position will be required to support and develop a range of research and development projects in the area of water-rock interaction in support of carbon storage (especially mineralization), natural hydrogen and hydrogen storage, and geothermal, as well as reservoir quality. There is also an expectation that they will deliver as needed on-demand service to support projects within Chevron business units, some of which may be in support of decision making and the permitting process. The individual may be asked to review the work of business partners and present their assessment to business teams and managers. The successful candidate will be expected to represent Chevron as a subject matter expert in industry meetings and coordinate with university researchers. There is an expectation that the individual will also work closely with the various water chemistry chapters that exist in the Subsurface and HES functions.

Skills required include strong background in geology and/or chemistry, proficient in using available geochemical modeling software packages (e.g., TOUGHREACT), knowledge of the available thermodynamic and kinetic databases to support the reactive transport models. Cross-functional collaborative skills with those working in reservoir quality, seal properties and alteration, water chemistry, mineralogy, and basin modeling are essential. Ability to align stakeholders toward common goals, building relationship in team environments, demonstration of strong growth mindset and capability to deliver results efficiently and innovatively are expected. Position may require travel to SBU or third-party locations to fulfill job responsibilities, consultation, and technical work.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Technical capabilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of software, modeling processes, and methodologies utilized in reactive transport modeling.
  • Practical experience in using at least one of the reactive transport modeling packages.
  • Prior experiences in the new energy space including carbon storage, hydrogen, or geothermal energy would be beneficial.
  • Proven capability to deliver quality results and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Teamwork:

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively at all levels and across technical disciplines.
  • A willingness to work with basin modelers as they examine fluid flow with basins and chemists that are actively examining pore fluids.
  • Capability to explain the construction of the reactive transport models and the significance of the model output.

Communication:

  • Effectively communicates with other SMEs, non-specialist technical staff and management and decision makers.
  • Capable of communicating complex, multi-disciplinary concepts, and technologies succinctly and in business context.

Required Qualifications

  • Master or Ph.D. degree in Geology or Chemistry
  • Strong background in geology and/or chemistry.

  • Proficient in using available geochemical modeling software packages (e.g., TOUGHREACT).

  • Knowledge of the available thermodynamic and kinetic databases to support the reactive transport models.
